Breakfast

For an early start we would recommend choosing from the breakfast selection at Tinderbox, situated on the corner of Ingram Street and Montrose Street. From the main entrance, cross the road and turn right Tinderbox is at the corner of the next road on your left. If you are having a more leisurely start (after 10am) Art De Caf, situated in the Brunswick Street side of The Old Sheriff Court building, is the ideal place to relax over breakfast or lunch while viewing the art on display. From the main entrance turn right and immediately right again the café is on your right where the walkway starts. Citation, situated on the Wilson Street side of the Old Sheriff Court building, also serves breakfast from 10am - 12 from Monday to Friday and until 4pm on weekends.

Main meals and light lunches

The Merchant Square is a great place to go for a good atmosphere. This square was originally the fruit market which has now been transformed into a covered square surrounded by a selection of restaurants and bars. From the main entrance of the apartments turn right along Ingram Street, take the second on the right into Candleriggs and the merchant square entrance is on your left. By day the square often hosts markets and by night it is a good place to sit, relax and people watch.

For high quality Scottish produce, with the emphasis on fish and shellfish, although steaks and game are available. The City Merchant is the place to go. From the main entrance of the apartments follow the directions above, in Candleriggs the restaurant is on your right at number 97-99. The restaurant is open every day, apart from Sundays, from 12 noon until 11.30pm.

Café Gandolfi, situated in the old cheese market in Albion Street, offers a unique café / restaurant experience. The menus combine Scottish produce with a European flavour. The café is well known for its beautiful, chunky, wooden furniture by Tim Stead a Glasgow School of Art graduate and a stained glass window by John Clark. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9am until 11.30pm and Sunday 12noon until 11.30pm. From the main entrance of the apartments turn right into Ingram Street, cross Brunswick Street and Candleriggs then turn right into Albion Street. Café Gandolfi is on your left at number 64.

For a taste of Charles Rennie Mackintosh design you have to visit the Willow Tea Rooms . The nearest one is in Buchanan Street. From the main entrance of the apartments turn left, continue along Ingram Street until you reach Queen Street, cross, and walk past the Gallery of Modern Art, through the archway and you are at Buchanan Street. The Willow Tearooms are on the opposite side of the street at number 97.
